New York, NY, July 9, 2001President George W. Bush will address the National Urban Leagues 2001 annual conference on Wednesday, August 1, at 9:00 AM, National Urban League president Hugh B. Price announced today.
Also confirmed to deliver remarks are Senator Tom Daschle (Monday, July 30, 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM); Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan (Monday, July 30, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM) and U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige (Tuesday, July 31, 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM).
Scheduled for July 28 through August 1 in Washington DC at the Washington Convention Center, the theme for this years National Urban League conference is "The Opportunity Agenda: Achieving Economic and Social Equality in the New Millennium." Press registration is complimentary, and will be taken on site at the convention center.
The Greater Washington Urban League, under president and CEO Maudine Cooper, is the host affiliate for this years event, and PepsiCo, Inc. and Freddie Mac are the conference sponsoring partners.
Conference activities include a free career fair featuring the participation of more than 70 Fortune 500 and high-tech companies, as well as non-profit and government agencies. Also open to the public at no cost are an exhibits hall, a health fair and an African-American marketplace.
Another conference highlight will be a tribute to the late Sony Music Entertainment Corporation exec H. LeBaron Taylor, featuring performances by LeVert, Nancy Wilson, Jeff Majors, and The OJays, on Monday evening, July 30.

President Bush Confirmed for National Urban League 2001 Conference
The National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP), which is comprised of more than 35 Urban League Young Professionals chapters around the country, will also hold special events, including a two-day leadership development seminar called The Training Ground. Confirmed participants include Jesse Jackson, Jr., Harvard Universitys Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and National Urban League president Hugh Price.

Prior to the Leagues Conference at the Washington Convention Center, the organizations NULITES (National Urban League Incentive to Excel and Succeed) youth program will host a Youth Summit at Catholic University Of America, from July 26-30, 2001.
The Youth Summit hosts up to 500 young people, ages 14 to 19, and their chaperons in an environment designed to engage them with educational, social and other recreational activities geared toward the critical issues facing todays youth.
This years summit theme, developed by NULITERS from Alexandria, VA, Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC, and Wilmington, DE, is Responsibility: Get Up! Get Out! And Do Something!
Highlights of the Leagues Youth Summit include a NULITES "Achievement Matters" rally, on Sunday July 29, 2001, from 12:00 PM -1:30 PM, in the Washington DC Convention Center.
Called "Image Isnt Everything So Create Your Own: Simple Life Lessons for Teens," the NULITES Achievement Matters Rally will feature guest speaker Terrie M. Williams, president of the Terrie Williams Agency, addressing how celebrities and media images affect young peoples attitudes about success and achievement.
