Political Leaders Flock to National Urban League Annual Conference
Conference Agenda Heats Up as Vice President Al Gore Joins George W. Bush and Bill Bradley
New York, July 26, 1999Vice President Al Gore today confirmed his participation in the National Urban Leagues 1999 Annual Conference, set for August 8 through 11 in Houston, Texas. The Vice President will deliver a speech at the organizations Federal and State Resources Luncheon on Monday, August 9, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Gore joins presidential hopeful George W. Bush on the Leagues Conference program the Governor will address the crowd at the Conference opening ceremonies on Sunday, August 8, prior to National Urban League President Hugh B. Prices keynote address along with Democratic Presidential hopeful Bill Bradley. Bradley will participate in a special Conference session on Tuesday, August 10 at 3:00 p.m.
Also scheduled to participate in the National Urban Leagues 1999 Annual Conference is the Reverend Jesse Jackson, who recently engineered a deal for Bank of America, Citigroup, and Goldman Sachs to purchase $37 million in auto loans held by inner-city consumers and collected by Detroit\'s Mel Farr Auto Group. Jackson will join NBC-TV Chief Congressional and Political Correspondent Gwen Ifill, U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and NAACP President Kweisi Mfume in a plenary session titled Political Power for the New Millennium on Monday, August 9, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Set for August 8 through 11 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, the National Urban Leagues 1999 Annual Conference will feature the participation of leading figures drawn from the worlds of politics, business, sports and law enforcement, in plenary sessions and informational luncheon sessions. Houston-based Shell Oil Company President and CEO Steven L. Miller is serving as the Conference Chair.
