  • The National Endowment for Financial Education and the National Urban League Team Up to Assist Job Seekers in "Planning for Success"

NEW YORK, July 7, 1999–Job seekers looking for job-hunting advice and interested workers who want financial feedback can now turn to the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) and the National Urban League’s series of free job-assistance guides.

Titled Planning for Success, the three guides in the series emphasize the relationship between earning a steady income and reaching longer-term financial goals. Each contains information about essential aspects of researching and securing a job, understanding and using job benefits to an employee’s advantage and tips for managing a paycheck wisely.

The first guide in the Planning for Success series, Landing a Job, covers topics related to all phases of the job hunt, and features advice on everything from looking for a job to negotiating a new job offer. Chapters include, "How to Find out Who’s Hiring", "Should You Pay Someone to Find You a Job?" and "Questions to Ask When Offered a Job." The next title in the series, Making the Most of Job Benefits, features in-depth information about deciphering the terms of and maximizing the advantages of employee benefits. The third, Making your Paychecks Count, focuses on building and maintaining healthy spending, savings and investment plans.

    THE NUL & NEFE…Page Two

"An integral part of the National Urban League’s mission is to help foster economic self-sufficiency among those members of the African-American community who are striving toward the mainstream," said National Urban League Executive Vice President Milton J. Little, Jr.

"We’re confident that our Planning for Success series will help make a difference in the lives of our constituents who are looking for a guide as they navigate their road to employment and financial security," he added.

According to Brent Neiser, Director of Collaborative Programs for NEFE, the partnership with the National Urban League was a natural fit for NEFE’s longstanding dedication to helping all Americans acquire the information and gain the skills necessary to take control of their personal finances.

"This project with the National Urban League effectively underscores NEFE’s strong commitment to helping specific audiences within the general population find ways to empower themselves and to reach their dreams of financial stability and success," Neiser said.
